The Butler County Democratic Party has announced that it will open qualifying for the 2016 elections on Monday.
Qualifying will close at 5 p.m. Nov. 6.
“We’re ready to accept candidates,” said Jesse McWilliams, chairman of the Butler County Democratic Party. “We’ll help them get the paperwork they need and get it filed.”
To qualify for an elected office in the State of Alabama or Butler County, candidates must file a notarized declaration of candidacy, appointment of principal campaign committee and statement of economic interest. According to McWilliams, the qualifying fee is 2 percent of the salary for the elected position.
The elections this cycle on a local level will include all members of the Butler County Commission and the district attorney. Other races on the ballot will be for delegates to the Democratic National Convention to elect the presidential candidate, three associate justices on the Alabama Supreme Court, and the state Public Service Commission president.
Candidates for statewide offices must qualify with the state Democratic Party, while candidates for local offices must qualify with the local party.
Anyone interested in serving as a delegate to the national convention must submit a notarized application along with a $50 donation made payable to the Alabama Democratic Party.
Those interested in qualifying can contact McWilliams at (334) 525-0855.
