Nearly 100 runners were all aglow as they took part in Crenshaw Christian Academy’s first-ever Glow Run Saturday night.
The event featured a one-mile fun run and a 5k. Before setting course from a glowing starting line, runners donned everything from tiaras to fluorescent socks to light their way.
Becky Lester, Annagrace Thomas and Bayli Register said they were excited to sign up for the run.
“We’ve been training for a while and I live close to here,” said Thomas.
The start and finish lines were at Luverne United Methodist Church. The course covered Second Street.
Lynn Kilpatrick, president of the PTA and one of the organizers of the event, said proceeds would be used to buy computers for CCA classrooms.
“It’s all for technology in our school,” she said.
The PTA decided on a glow run because there were no similar events in the area.
“We wanted to do something different,” Kilpatrick said.
Winners received iTunes gift cards, prize packages and medals.
“Everyone gets something,” Kilpatrick said.
Macie McAiley came in first place for the fun run. Second place went to Sophie Boyd and Madaline Sims took third place.
In the 5k, Britt Kelley was the first-place winner. He was followed by Alicia Sexton in second and Marty Sexton in third place. Andrea Frost earned fourth overall.
