A Greenville man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting on South Street Wednesday.

Jimmy Little, 28, of Greenville, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon.

“We were able to collect enough evidence and statements from witnesses to verify that Jimmy Little was the shooter in this incident,” said Capt. Justin Lovvorn.

Lovvorn said statements from witnesses point to a dispute over money as being the cause of the shooting, which left the victim in “serious condition.” Martin Wilson, a 47-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the right eye. He was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Montgomery.

The shooting occurred just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday at 808 South Street.

“When officers arrived on the scene they found the victim in the backyard with a gunshot wound to the head,” Lovvorn said.

Authorities began canvasing the area and quickly developed a suspect.

“We got a call that the suspect was several streets away on foot,” Lovvorn said. “Officers responded to the area and located the person of interest hiding on a second story balcony at Perdue Village Apartments. He was taken into custody without incident.”

Officers were also dispatched to Wimberly Street to search for possible evidence related to the shooting.

“I would like to commend both the patrol and investigations divisions for their efforts in this case,” said Chief Lonzo Ingram. “They were able to work three different scenes at one time to help resolve this hazardous situation and identify, locate and arrest the suspect within an hour of when the shooting occurred. The police department would also like to thank the citizens of Greenville who call with information. It is vital that the police department and the community stand together against crime in order to make our city safe and a desirable place to live.”

Little is being held without bond at the Butler County Correctional Facility.
