County commissioners hired Elliott Jones as director of Emergency Management. He replaces Earl Thompson, who is now a Crenshaw County deputy.

“I’m really excited about this position,” Jones said. “I’ve wanted to work in public service since I was in high school.”

Jones, a Crenshaw County native, has 24 years of experience in emergency services, including a stint as a Greenville fire medic. His most recent position was as solid waste officer for Crenshaw County.

As EMA director, Jones will serve as a liason for all county emergency services and citizens for assistance at the federal and state level.

“First and foremost, I am a public servant,” he said. “I’m here to serve the citizens. That’s my responsibility. They can call on me day or night and I’ll be there for them.
