Fort Dale Academy student Emiley Wells will serve as one of two representatives for Pioneer Electric Cooperative as they travel to Washington, D.C., June 12-18, to participate in the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour program.

Wells and Selma High School’s Aderick Moore were selected Friday to serve as the cooperative’s Washington Youth Tour/ Youth Leadership Program delegates. The two will be representing Pioneer Electric Cooperative among 1,500 high school juniors from cooperatives across the country.

Lowndes Academy’s Millie Motes and Morgan Academy’s Harrison Adams will serve as alternates in the occurrence that either delegate cannot fulfill their duties.

Wells is the daughter of Joey Wells and Paige Lindsey of Greenville. She was selected as a Hugh O’Brian Leadership Conference Ambassador in 2014 and currently serves as a Student Government Association director and as an Eagle Representative. As a member of ECHO (Experiencing Community Through Helping Others), she has participated in various philanthropic projects within the community. She is also a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club and Fellowship of Active Christian Teachers and Students at Fort Dale Academy.

“I believe that having the opportunity to attend the Washington, D.C. Youth Tour will help to further my preparedness for college and the career path that I will take,” said Wells. “I can’t thank Pioneer Electric enough for this incredible experience.”

Moore and Wells will have the opportunity to learn about leadership skills, the growing importance of political action and the cooperative business model while visiting historic sites and government offices in Washington, D.C. this June.
