Walking in the side door of Greenville High School last Friday, we didn’t really know what to expect.

What was waiting on the other side were two lines of eighth graders from Georgiana, waiting to enter the next tour stop at the school’s career academy expo.

Students went from classroom to classroom learning about different careers, including nursing, welding, industrial maintenance and others.

We tried to walk around and take pictures in all of the tour stops, but couldn’t help but noticing the look of interest in the students’ faces.

They clung on to ever word the instructor was talking about during the short presentation.

Their eyes and ears especially perked up when the leader mentioned how much money they’d be making if they decided to pursue the career that was talked about.

While they were a topic of interest in each classroom, salaries weren’t the most important.

Each instructor made it clear that getting your education is a must in order to succeed in these career fields.

That was a good site to behold.

This career expo represented the beginning of what these students will start to think about over the next four or so years.

Hopefully, the career day expo at GHS taught the students the importance of getting your education, first and foremost, and the vast opportunities that await them after getting their diplomas.

After all, you have to start somewhere.
