Greenville City business licenses for 2015 are due now.

Those who want to avoid a penalty need to purchase a license before Mon., Feb. 2.

Mayor Dexter McLendon urged local businesses to take care of getting a license before the deadline in his post-meeting comments on Monday night.

City clerk Sue Arnold said the licenses can be paid for by cash, check or credit card, and that they can be paid in person by 5 p.m. on Feb. 2.

Business licenses that are being paid through the mail need to be postmarked by the penalty deadline in order to avoid the penalty.

In other business, the council:

• approved tax abatements for Midsouth Paving, Inc. McLendon said a lot of work went into getting this done;

• authorized the issuance of an ABC liquor license for Bright Tek, LLC., Food Stop No. 2, at 80 Halso Mill Road, previously the Corner Stop;

• accepted and approved the quarterly financial reports for Oct. 1-Dec. 31, 2014; and,

• approved expenditures of $1,240 for Consolidated Fleet Services for the annual fire ladder inspections and heat sensors, and $7,825 for Central Fire Services for parts and labor to install a 6-foot stainless steel fire hood, fire suppression system and Class K extinguisher in the Dunbar Gym kitchen.

Near the end of the meeting, Greenville City councilman Jeddo Bell thanked the Mayor and council for the improved pavilion and bathrooms at Dunbar Park.
