Recently, two precious sisters in Christ and I did a radio interview for Defining Moments Women’s Ministry.

We spoke openly for an hour about our upbringing and parents who loved Jesus Christ with all of their hearts.

We talked about the heritages we were brought up in and that we indeed were doing our best to lay Godly foundations for our children and grandchildren.

In turn, we each shared trials and circumstances in which we had walked. We are still running the race that has been set before us regarding our families.

I shared and, as anyone who knows me and has heard me share my testimony knows, I do not sugarcoat anything.

I talked about walking in some choices that were not covered in the blood of Jesus Christ. I had made these several years ago. They had led me to a very destructive lifestyle.

But, God, so faithful and full of grace, never gave up on me. He poured His forgiveness into me and washed me clean. He instilled inside of me the desire to leave a Spiritual Heritage for my children; the same heritage my parents brought me up in, and the prayers of a praying mother that kept me lifted to the throne of God.

If you are a parent or grandparent out there who may feel like it’s too late to start a Spiritual Heritage for your children, it’s not! If you have a pulse, you have that purpose.

I want to encourage you to speak life and blessings over your children, no matter their age, as Proverbs 18:21 suggests.

Lift them up to the throne of God and cover them with prayers daily. Share with them your experiences with the Savior of your soul. Be transparent on just how much God has given you grace.

Our children and grandchildren will learn more from us than anyone else. They learn what is acceptable and what is not. They learn how to handle situations and whom to put their trust in.

Leaving a Spiritual Heritage is more important than leaving anything else to our families when we pass. Those are foundations for our children and grandchildren. Make sure their foundation is built on solid ground when all else in this world is sinking sand.
