Scale Back Alabama celebrates its 9th year of promoting weight loss and motivating Alabamians to leading a healthy and active lifestyle.  The program has resulted in more than one million pounds lost since its beginning eight years ago.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 30 percent of Alabamians are obese.

Scale Back Alabama is available to those that are 18 years of age and older.   Individuals can register online or at an official registration site, and participate in teams of two or four.  Once registered, each team member must go to an official weigh-in site during the week of Jan. 19-25 to complete his or her initial weigh-in.  Following weigh-in, participants can expect to receive health tips from a panel of weight loss and nutrition experts to assist with the program.   At the end of the program’s contest, all individuals and teams who tally a weight loss of at least 10 pounds will be placed in a drawing for cash prizes.

Comfort Care Hospice of Greenville will serve as an official weigh-in site this year and will offer weigh-in services on Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

“We’re excited to serve the public as an official weigh-in site,” said Comfort Care Hospice administrator Darlene Todd.  “Scale Back Alabama is a 10-week program that creates a fun atmosphere to promote weight loss and physical activity.  It encourages Alabamians to get healthy and have fun while doing it.  Comfort Care Hospice promotes nutrition, wellness and exercise.  The CCH staff participated in Scale Back Alabama last year and lost a group total of 75 pounds,” said Todd.
