Second Chance Flea Market and Antique Mall may have run out of chances. The popular Luverne business will be closing its doors for good.

Owner Robin Gomillion said she has not set a closing date yet, but it could be as early as Dec. 31.

Second chances rents out space to vendors who sell anything from cast iron skillets to sofas. Gomillion said it’s the vendors she will lose that sadden her most. Some ran booths as a hobby, but for many, it was their only source of income.

When Gomillion and her husband opened up the Luverne location, it was a second branch to its original Elba store.

“Business just exploded here. So, we shut down the Elba store and focused on this one,” Gomillion said.

Business has continued to boom, but the agreement the Gomillion had with her landlord has fallen through.

Cathy Ward used to visit the store every week. She said she was really upset to hear it was closing.

“Luverne needs something like this,” she said. “This was a place for Luverne to go to. Sometimes, I would come and buy nothing; oher times, a whole basket-full. The people here were always friendly. I just hate that they couldn’t make it work.”

Gomillion said the store may get a “third chance” somewhere down the road. She and her husband are looking for a new space and have not ruled out another Luverne location. For now, her treasures are going in storage.
