The Luverne girls basketball team beat Goshen Tuesday, 47-32.

After getting on the board first, Goshen fell behind due in large part to turnovers and lack of size in the paint.

Luverne routiniely outrebounded Goshen, which resulted in several second and third chance points for the Tigers.

And after shaking off their own early turnover issues, Luverne pulled away late in the first quarter on their way to a 12-6 lead.

But the second quarter saw an offensive surge from the Eagles.

After being sent several times to the foul line, Goshen got within striking distance of the lead with the help of a 5-0 run before going into halftime down just 22-14.

The beginning of the second half saw much of the same from Goshen, as the Eagles continued making free throws, taking advantage of a very sloppy and foul-heavy third quarter by Luverne.

But poor shooting and turnovers again doomed Goshen in the fourth quarter.

After making another run at the lead, the Eagles committed a technical foul to sway momentum back to the side of the Tigers.

Finding themselves again being outrebounded in the fourth quarter, the Eagles couldn’t chip away at the growing Luverne lead.

Turnovers again came to haunt Goshen in the game’s closing minutes, as the Eagles desperately tried to push the ball down the court for quick scores, but the early deficit proved to large.

With the game in hand, Luverne ate up chunks of clock and all the Eagles could do was watch as time expired.
