One person is dead and another is in “guarded,” but stable condition at Baptist Medial Center South in Montgomery after gunshots were reported in Greenville on Saturday night.
Greenville Police Department Lt. Justin Lovvorn said the department received a call about some gunshots that were being fired on Wimberly Street at 11:20 p.m.
“Officers also received a call from the emergency room from (L.V.) Stabler that a gunshot victim came in there,” he said.
Lovvorn said that one victim involved in the shooting was transported directly to Baptist South. The other victim was later transported to the Montgomery hospital from the ER.
Lovvorn said that Kerry Smith, 29, of Greenville, died as a result of his gunshot wounds, and added that the other victim, whose identity won’t be released until later, is in guarded, but stable condition.
As far as a suspect in the shooting, Lovvorn said the GPD has a suspect, but is still acquiring evidence to get an arrest warrant.
Lovvorn said he thinks the shooting resulted from an argument, noting that there were a lot of people outside on Wimberly Street.
