MONTGOMERY— Decisive wins by farmer-friendly candidates in statewide and legislative races, coupled with return of the U.S. Senate to Republican control, are good news for Alabama families, property owners and small businesses, said Alabama Farmers Federation President Jimmy Parnell.

“Today voters in Alabama and across the country stood up for fiscal responsibility, economic growth, conservative values and respect for the balance of power established in the U.S. Constitution,” Parnell said. “This election is an endorsement of the Alabama Legislature’s work to create jobs through lower taxes and greater accountability. It’s also a strong statement against regulatory overreach by the Obama administration and six years of inaction and divisiveness by leadership in the U.S. Senate.”

Federation members claimed a major victory Tuesday night as 151 of 158 candidates endorsed by the organization’s political action committee, FarmPAC, were elected or re-elected. Leaders at the county level recommended each candidate for endorsement. The four constitutional amendments supported by the Federation also won voter approval.

“This election shows what can happen when citizens get involved,” Parnell said. “Our members not only studied the records of the candidates before making an endorsement, but they also talked to their neighbors, knocked on doors, put up signs and, most of all, turned out to vote on election day. Today’s results will strengthen our members’ voice in Montgomery and Washington.”

The Alabama Farmers Federation is the state’s largest farm organization with more than 350,000 members. Farmers founded it in 1921 as an advocate for agriculture, family values and good government to improve life for all Alabamians.
