A man and a woman that have been on the run since mid-August after authorities discovered a meth lab on their property were captured in Lee County Tuesday.

Jessica Ann Bush, 35, of McKenzie, and Tony Butler, Jr., 36, of LaGrange, Ga., were arrested by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at the Red Carpet Inn on Columbus Parkway in Opelika.

Lee County authorities said they received a tip that the fugitives were hiding out at the motel.

At the time of the arrest, according to authorities, the couple had $2,400 in cash, a quantity of suspected crystal meth, digitals scales, spoons and syringes.

Butler was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bush was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Butler and Bush were wanted by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Lee County authorities, Butler had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest, including third-degree burglary and attempted property theft in Chambers County; third-degree burglary and first-degree property theft in Butler County; dangerous drugs and obstructing violations from the Georgia State Board of Pardon and Parole; and financial fraud in Troup County.

Bush was wanted by Butler County authorities on nine felony warrants including unlawful distribution with the intent to distribute, third-degree burglary and property theft.

Butler County authorities began their search for the couple after discovering a meth lab, while investigating a burglary.

“We got a call from a man about a burglary at his residence,” Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden said. “He had several thousand dollars taken and he suspected his daughter and her boyfriend may have been involved. When the deputies arrived at the daughter’s residence, they found the meth lab.”

After obtaining a search warrant, officers with the Second Judicial Drug Task Force searched the shed and found 18 grams of meth valued at approximately $1,800.

According to a statement from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, both suspects will be transferred to other police jurisdictions after they have completed the legal process in Lee County.
