Authorities have arrested a Greenville man in connection with an armed robbery and a shooting that occurred Friday morning.

Devoris Robinson, 19, is charged with attempted murder, as well as two counts of robbery, first degree, and a single count of burglary, first degree.

Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden said that Robinson is being held in the Butler County Correctional Facility on a $120,000 bond.

“Witnesses told us that a black male came into the yard at a home on John Zipper Road off of Poole Road and robbed at gunpoint two people who were standing in the yard,” Harden said. “According to the witnesses he discharged a firearm several times in the process. He then went into the house and made everyone inside get on the floor. When one of the victims called his name, he fled the house.”

According to Harden, while Robinson was inside the house, one of the men he had robbed in the yard retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and opened fire when Robinson came out of the house. The two men exchanged gunfire and Robinson was struck twice — once in the ankle and once in the buttocks.

Robinson was transported to L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital by private vehicle. He was later transported to a Montgomery hospital where he was treated and released.

“We didn’t release any information on Friday because we had the statements from the witnesses, but the suspect was telling us a different story,” said Harden. “He claimed he was walking in the area when he was shot. We didn’t want to put him on alert and have him flee the area, so we held off on releasing the information until our investigation was complete and we were ready to file charges.”

Harden said the man who shot Robinson has not been charged with a crime.

“You have a right to defend yourself,” he said.
