The first class of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College students to transfer to Auburn University at Montgomery since the two schools formed a partnership are set to begin classes at AUM this fall.

AUM and LBWCC signed an agreement in January aimed at better supporting LBWCC students interested in completing their education at AUM.

The partnership has led the two schools to work closer on student advisement, creating a pathway for students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree to easily transfer into AUM.

LBWCC students are able to “reverse transfer” credits back to LBWCC and receive an associate’s degree while attending AUM. All LBWCC students transferring with a minimum 3.0 GPA are provided a $1,000-$2,000 scholarship, while the top transfer student receives a full two-year President Scholarship.

Brett Taylor of Greenville is the first recipient of the prestigious LBWCC Presidential Scholarship, which covers tuition and fees for two years of study at AUM. The award is given to the top transfer student, as identified by LBWCC administration. Taylor graduated in May with an associate’s degree from LBWCC, where he was a member of the Academic Team, Phi Kappa Theta honor society, Who’s Who and Dean’s List. He will continue his demonstrated student involvement at AUM by serving as a Transfer Ambassador for the Office of Admissions.

He plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science at AUM and aspires to eventually attend law school.

With campuses in Andalusia, Greenville, Luverne and Opp, Lurleen B. Wallace Community College serves Butler, Covington, Crenshaw, Coffee and Geneva Counties, as well as areas of the Florida panhandle. Under the governance of the Alabama State Board of Education, LBWCC offers career-oriented certificates and associate degrees.
