Multi-Grammy award winning gospel and pop gospel singer Sandi Patty will perform Sunday at Antioch East Baptist Church in Greenville.
But she won’t be alone on stage.
She’ll be joined by a 75-member choir composed of vocalists from churches in Greenville, Luverne, Pintlala, Evergreen, and Brewton.
“The most fun part of this whole thing has been working with the choir,” said Brad Jones, music minister at Antioch East Baptist Church. “There’s been such a blessing of cooperation between everyone, and this a very talented choir. The quality of the vocalists is probably the strongest that I’ve ever had the chance to work with. Add on top of that Sandi, who is the Billy Graham of Christian music, and this could very well be the greatest choral event Greenville has ever had.”
Patty released her first album in 1978 and won her first Grammy in 1984.
She’s gone on to win five Grammy awards, 40 Dove Awards and record more than 30 albums. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2004.
“I am grateful for the many opportunities for God has given in my life and for how He has allowed me to spread my wings,” Patty said. “Singing is my way to tell my story of hope, life, and love.”
Patty is currently on her “Everlasting” tour.
Jones said she typically plays venues that range from 2,000 to 4,000 seats.
“It’s such a blessing for us to have her here because we obviously have limited seating,” he said. “She’s been a blessing to work with, and we’re excited to be able to have such a great event like this in Greenville that involves so many different people and churches.”
The concert, which Jones said is nearing a sell-out, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
