Luverne native Bobby Tomberlin will soon be appearing in the new music/game show, “The Singing Bee” on CMT.
Bobby is one of six singers to be featured on the show where contestants try to win $10,000 by finishing lyrics to songs that Bobby and the other singers start. Ten episodes of the show were filmed at CBS Television City in Hollywood last month on the same soundstage where American Idol is filmed.
Legendary composer, Steve Dorff is musical director for the show and Melissa Peterman, co-star of the “Reba” sitcom, is the host of the show. “The Singing Bee” will make its CMT debut on June 16 following the CMT Music Awards. Its official debut is scheduled for June 20. The show will air for ten weeks, and each episode will air at least eight times a week. Check local listings for the time.
Tomberlin has also been busy writing songs and has had songs featured on recent projects by Josh Turner, Jerry Lee Lewis, Joe Nichols, the Oak Ridge Boys, T. G. Sheppard and Rodney Atkins and has songs featured in two upcoming movies.
A song performed by Bobby and Opry legend, Little Jimmy Dickens, is going to be released to radio overseas next month. The song, “Little Love Story”, about Little Jimmy and his wife, was written by Tomberlin, Jimmy and Robbie Wittkowski. It was also announced this week that Tomberlin is the newest elected board member of the Nashville Songwriters Association, The NSAI help fight for songwriters’ rights in Washington D.C.
Bobby is a staff songwriter for CURB Records Publishing and is signed with ASE Talent Agency in Los Angeles for voiceover representation.
Tomberlin recently finished a tour of the upper midwest with his wife, Candi Carpenter. Carpenter just finished an acoustic CD that features songs co-written with Bobby as well as hit writers like Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers. Candi is also featured playing guitar in the recent Brooks and Dunn video, “Put A Girl In It” and has just finished work on three movies, a Pizza Hut commercial and several modeling jobs. Candi and Bobby have numerous shows booked throughout the year and they are regulars at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Candi is signed with the Avenue Agency of Nashville, Tenn.
Tomberlin is the son of Hubert and Betty Tomberlin of Luverne.
