Greenville police say a suspect is under arrest for a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday morning outside the Front Street Pub.
The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force took Marlon Herbert, 33, of Greenville, into custody Tuesday afternoon in Atlanta. He was wanted in connection with a shooting that left 31-year-old Russell Gregory dead.
“We were able to work a few leads and talk to people in the area and that gave us a pretty good idea that he was around Atlanta,” said Lt. Justin Lovvorn of the Greenville Police Department. “We had already contacted the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in Montgomery, and they reached out to their office in Atlanta. They conducted surveillance on the house we thought he was in, and around 4 p.m. (Tuesday) they raided the house and were able to take the suspect into custody.”
According to authorities, Herbert is accused of shooting Gregory in the head after an argument outside the Front Street Pub escalated.
Herbert then got into his car to leave the scene, but stopped in the middle of Commerce Street. Authorities say at that point Gregory attempted to pull Herbert from the car. That’s when they say Herbert fired a single shot, killing Gregory at around 1 a.m. Sunday.
“We’re glad to have him in custody and off the streets, and he’ll have his day in court,” Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram said.
