SEAGD gives back to schools

Southeast Alabama Gas District is lending a helping hand to Butler County Schools.
On Thursday, the company donated $7,683 to the school system.
Butler County Schools Superintendent Amy Bryan said she has not yet designated the funds for any certain project. In the past, the funds have been used to help provide the $15,000 match required for Teach for America.
Mitch Thorn, marketing representative for Southeast Alabama Gas District, said that over the past five years the company has donated nearly $50,000 to the Butler County School System through its Give Back to Schools initiative.
“Our board members allocated a certain amount of money that is given back to their cities to give back to the schools,” Thorn said. “Our board is comprised of city councilmen and mayors and they allocate a certain amount annually to give back to the schools because they know what kind of situation they’re in as far as funding.”
The Southeast Alabama Gas District was formed in January of 1952 to provide natural gas service to the cities of Andalusia, Abbeville, Brundidge, Dothan, Elba, Enterprise, Eufaula, Fort Deposit, Greenville, Headland, Luverne, Opp, Ozark and Troy. Each of those cities owned, and still owns, an equal share of the gas district, and continues to be represented equally on the SEAGD Board of Directors.
The Southeast Alabama Gas District now serves 30,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in 34 communities throughout the Southeast quadrant of Alabama.
