Macon-East Montgomery Academy edged Fort Dale Academy 2-1 Monday in the Lady Eagles’ season opener.
The Lady Eagles (0-1) struck first when Jessica Little scored on a penalty kick with 34:18 remaining the opening half.
In the second half, the Lady Eagles failed to register a shot on goal, while the Lady Knights tallied eight shots on goal, which led to two goals. The first Macon-East goal came with 24:05 left to play and the second came on a penalty kick with 4:27 remaining in the contest.
Fort Dale head coach Andrea Skipper praised the play of goalkeeper Rachel Jackson, who tallied six saves.
“She played a great game,” she said. “She only gave up two goals, and one of those was on a penalty kick. Getting a stop on a penalty kick is really just luck because you’re guessing where the ball is going.”
Skipper said overall she was pleased with her team’s performance.
“There are things we need to work on,” she said. “We need more passing to help set up shots on goal, but overall I thought we played a great game for an opener. This was a test to see where we stand, and now we can learn from our mistakes.”
The Lady Eagles will be back in action Tuesday when they hit the road for a showdown with Autauga Academy.
The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
