Charles Newton has announced his intention to seek reelection to the Alabama House of Representatives.
Newton was first elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1989. He represents District 90, which is made up of all of Butler County and Crenshaw County, and portions of Conecuh County, Coffee County and Montgomery County.
He currently serves as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Public Safety Committee.
“I have been honored to represent the citizens of District 90, and I solicit their support in 2014,” Newton said. “The citizens of District 90 deserve an honest, positive and effective voice in state government. My experience as a businessman and as a legislator will equip me to successfully represent the district.”
Newton said fiscal responsibility is a priority to voters in District 90.
“The residents of District 90 want state government to spend tax dollars wisely and to provide essential services efficiently,” he said. “I will continue to cast votes that reflect that position.”
Newton resides in Greenville where he owns and operates Newton Oil Company. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Greenville, the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, and the Alabama Historical Association.
He and his wife, Jan, have been married for 38 years and have three children.
Newton is running as a Republican.
