Greenville High School head coach Richard Kelly issued a challenge to his post players.
Play big.
Kelly knew that it would take a strong inside presence for the Class 5A Tigers to top Class 6A Robert E. Lee High School.
His big men didn’t disappoint. Greenville post players helped lead the Tigers to a 53-48 win over the Generals.
“I felt as if my post guys played well against their size,” Kelly said of Lavarus Peagler, Marvin Davidson and Marlon Davidson. “I told them before the game that they were going to have to step up, and they did.”
Offensively, the Tigers (3-0) were led by Zac Smith’s 21 points.
Javarrius Cheatham chipped in 11 points, and Raheem Moore added nine points and seven rebounds.
“We didn’t shoot the ball exceptionally well, but we made shots down the stretch when we needed to make them.”
The Generals (2-4) were led by Kendarrius Hamilton’s 12 points and Kendarius Hartwell’s nine points.
