Luverne coach Mike Dubose called Friday’s win “a great win for the second round.”

The Oakman Wildcats received the ball to start the first half of the second round game of the playoffs.

As the game got under way, it started out as a strong defensive battle.

The Luverne Tigers made the first touchdown late in the first quarter on a 32-yard pass from Kenterius Womack to Quez Watkins and the PAT good by Jon Haden Sanders with 2:51 left in the opening quarter, putting the Tigers up 7-0.

With 1:18 left in the first half, Womack hit Preston Sankey for a 35-yard TD pass and Sanders hit the uprights putting his team up 14-0.

The Tigers received the ball to start the second half of play.

Luverne struck immediately with a pass to Marcel McMillian for the touchdown.

Sanders hit the PAT, with 11:15 to go in the third quarter, putting the Tigers up 21-0.

The Wildcats turned the ball over on downs on its next possession.

An 86-yard Womack pass to Watkins was good for another Tiger TD and the PAT is good, giving Luverne a 28-0 lead with 6:36 left in the third.

When Luverne got the ball back, Preston Sankey ran 69 yards to score and with another Sanders good PAT the score climbed to 35-0 with 3:13 left in the third. Oakman continued to struggle and turned the ball over on downs.

Womack ran 46 yards on a quarterback keeper to score the next TD and a good PAT by Sanders makes the score 42-0 with 9:49 left in the game.

The Tigers recovered an onside kick and on the next play, Jonathan Chambers ran the ball 44 yards for the touchdown with 9:30 left in the fourth, making the score 48-0.

After the kick off Oakman scored a TD and the extra point with 8:25 left in the game, making the score 48-7. Luverne had to put on its next possession.

The Wildcats’ QB completed a pass for a touchdown and PAT was good for the final score of the game, 48-14.

Dubose said, “it was an exciting win and as a coach you always want to do better. The team executed big plays at crucial times. This was a great win for the second round.”

Luverne will play host to Sweet Water in the quarterfinals of the AHSAA playoffs next week.
