Mayor proposes voluntary recycling program

It could become even easier to be green in the town of Brantley, if Mayor Bernie Sullivan has his way.
Sullivan said he hopes the town can partner with the Brantley Recycling Center to pick-up items that can be recycled.
Sullivan said he came across the idea while traveling in north Alabama.
“I was traveling in a town near Albertville and they had orange bags tied on their green cans,” he said. “I asked someone what that was and they told me it was voluntary recycling.”
Sullivan said he hopes to have recyclables picked up bi-weekly or monthly by the business.
“We would be the first in the area to do this,” he said. “We would be putting less in the landfill and it would be less garbage costs for us. We would also be supporting a local business.”
It is unclear when the program would begin.
