The final score may have been 21-7 in the Cougars’ homecoming loss to Springwood, but don’t let the score fool you — it was closer than the score indicates.
Springwood received the opening kick off and ran the ball all the way back to put the first points on the board.
The PAT was good with 11:41 to go in the first quarter, making it 7-0.
The game turned into a defensive battle with the ball possession going back and forth until the Wildcats found the end zone again with a good PAT the score went to 14-0 with 5:53 left in the half.
CCA was unable to answer with a score before the first half came to an end.
CCA opened the third quarter with a fumble that set up the next score for the Wildcats. With 8:47 to go in the third, Springwood scored and completed the point after to make it 21-0.
As the defensive battle continued the Cougars made the last drive down the field with a 1:20 left in the game when Collin Holloway ran the ball in from four yards out for the TD and the PAT was good to make the score 21-7 as the game came to a close.
Coach Rick Jackson said he felt like the team went into game with right attitude but ” we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot and turning the ball over.”
CCA will end its season at home against Glenwood next week.
