Elba shuts down Highland, 60-20

It was a back-and-forth contest in the north end of the county in the beginning of a fight for the second seed spot in 2A, Region 3, but the Elba Tigers pulled away to defeat Highland Home 60-20.
The Tigers struck first with 4:11 left in the first quarter and Darrean Burks two-point conversion was good.
Highland Home’s Chris Wooten took it in from 3 yards out with 14 seconds left in the first. Andrew Akers’ kick was good.
Wooten struck again on a long TD run with 10:55 left in the second.
With 9:57 left in the second, Burks hit Paris Edwards for another TD.
Highland’s Donate Lee sailed through the end zone with 7:19 left in the second and Akers’ extra point was good, putting the Squadron up 20-16.
Elba put up six unanswered touchdowns before the game ended.
Squadron Kirk Meriweather was injured during the game and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
