Reduce, reuse, recycle – it’s a raging fad throughout the country, but it’s even easier to be green here thanks to a new business open in Brantley.

The business is located in the old Brantley gin location and owner Paul Knight and crew have cleaned up the location.

Knight opened the business two weeks ago and had a grand opening celebration this week.

Twelve people have been hired with the hopes of hiring up to 20.

Knight said he was drawn to the location because of the scales located on the property and the facilities were large enough for what he needed.

“The people of Brantley and Crenshaw County have been very welcoming,” he said.

Mayor Bernie Sullivan said he was happy to have a new business in Brantley.

“Any new business in Brantley is a good thing,” he said. “One thing, is the clean environment in connection with KW Plastics.”

Sullivan praised the aesthetic looks of the place since it was cleaned up for the business.

“We hope this will lead to something with the old Helispec building and industrial access through the governor’s office,” he said.

The business focuses on recycling metal, plastic and cardboard.

They take things like aluminum cans, old vehicles, appliances – all types of metal, certain types of plastic and all corrugated cardboard.

Knight said the response has been good.

“We’re going full blast,” he said.

The business is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
