Luverne High School Class of 1953 holds 60th reunion

SPECIAL TO THE JOURNAL
The Luverne High School of 1953 held it’s 60th class reunion on Saturday, August 10, at
the Shriner’s Club in Luverne, Al. Dr. Doug Hawkins, class president, served as Master of
Ceremonies. The class was welcomed by Doug.
A candlelight memorial service was led by Buddy Bailey with Billy Thompson and Lamon
Killough assisting. Twenty-one of our classmates were remembered.
After the benediction led by Buddy Bailey the class enjoyed a delicious food buffet catered by
Jean Sims.
Music through out the day was records from the 50’s and 60’s era. The 45 RPMs were played
on a rockola from Kayo Sipper.
Many of the classmates met at the Shriner’s Club on Friday to assist Mary Davis King to
decorate. White table cloths were used on the tables with red and white (school colors) floral
arrangements made by Mary . Red and white streamers were draped from the ceiling with
balloons hanging. Hotdogs with all the trimmings were served by Barbara and Johnny Brunson.
Those attending were Barbara (Joe Rex) Sport, Nelda Catrett, Mary (Layton) King, Erma Lois
Davenport, Patricia ( Kline) Pugh, Betty (Tom) Russell, Sue (Billy) Beall, Maurine (Clifford) Estes,
Johnny (Barbara) Brunson, Wayne (Jewel) Killough, Rip (Ann) Cox, Buddy (Erma) Bailey, Lamon
(Judy) Killough, Ken (Peggy) Cox, Doug (Dean) Hawkins, Billy (Sharon) Norman, Louise Grayson,
Sara Stephenson, and Kaki Mahone.
