An argument between two students ended with a man being stabbed and a juvenile being jailed.

According to authorities, a fight at Greenville High School between a male student and a female student led to the altercation that resulted in a stabbing Tuesday night.

“The two students got into an argument and that led to a physical altercation at the school Tuesday, which eventually led the second altercation later in the day,” Lt. Justin Lovvorn said.

Lovvorn said when the female student’s 21-year-old brother learned of the fight, he went in search of the male student. The two eventually talked on the phone and arranged a meeting.

“When they met, an argument started and it turned physical,” Lovvorn said. “During the fight the juvenile pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the older man several times.”

The man was transported to L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital and was flown to Baptist South in Montgomery, where he was treated and released.

According to authorities, he was treated for several stab wounds and a punctured lung.

The juvenile was charged with assault, first degree.

He has not been charged as an adult and is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Montgomery.

“We’re not treating this as a self defense case even though the brother went looking for him because the juvenile went to meet the brother after they talked on the phone,” Lovvorn said. “He didn’t try to avoid the situation or call us and let us handle it. It’s a situation that could have been avoided, and the circumstances just don’t make a case for self defense.”
