CCA defeats Chambers 43-10

The Crenshaw Cougars scored 21 unanswered points in the second half of its 43-10 rout of Chambers Academy Friday.
Chambers struck first with a touchdown pass to Quadarius Tinsley, and a successful PAT, to put the Rebels up by seven with 3:22 left in the first.
CCA’s Dalton Weeks put six on the board in the second quarter.
Collin Holloway hit the end zone for a two-point conversion giving CCA an 8-7 lead.
After an exchange of possessions, Crenshaw’s Gavin McKenzie took a hand off 85 yards for a touchdown with 5:37 seconds left in the second quarter. The two-point conversion was good making the score 16-7.
CCA quarterback Trent McGough hit Hunter Weeks with 34 seconds left in the first half, putting the Cougars up 22-7.
Chambers scored a 28-yard field goal, ending the half, with the Cougars up 22-10.
To start the third quarter, Crenshaw marched down the field and McKenzie scored, putting the Cougars up 28-10 with 7:58 left in the third.
The Rebels fumbled on their next possession setting the Cougars up for a touchdown by McKenzie.
CCA’s Matthew Luster put the ball through the uprights, putting his team up 35-10.
Linebackers Colton Kelley and Josh Lewis caused another Rebels’ fumble.
McGough hit the end zone once again for the 41-10 lead.
With 4:18 left in the fourth, the Cougars got a safety to make the score 43-10.
CCA head coach Rick Jackson said it was a total team effort.
“(It took) great work and leadership to overcome their adversities,” he said. “It was a great win. (Our) conditioning program really paid off.”
