Dear Editor,

This past Saturday night, Sierra Teate was chosen as the 2014 Butler County Distinguished Young Woman and was the interview, the talent, and the self expression winner. It was an outstanding night where six of our county’s brightest seniors were recognized for their many accomplishments.  The young ladies put on an exceptional performance after several weeks of preparation and rehearsing.  The hard work paid off.

In addition to Sierra’s selection, Erica McNaughton was first runner up and scholastic winner.  Sarah Elizabeth Godwin was second runner up.  Other scholarships awarded include Hope Riddle winning the fitness award, Victoria Salvador winning the essay award, and Morgan Burkett winning the spirit award.  The scholarship total was in excess of $5,000.

There are many people to thank for the program’s success.  Our board of directors worked together tirelessly to get the job done.  I commend their commitment to provide the girls a rewarding and outstanding opportunity to participate in such a program.  I applaud our sponsors for providing scholarship money that is very meaningful to our girls as they begin their college careers in 2014. I appreciate the media coverage from the Greenville Advocate and Q94 radio. I give a big thank you to all of our other volunteers who went beyond the call of duty to make our program successful.

The senior girl participants, the “little sisters,” and the High Heel Boot Campers all had an experience they will always remember.  This opportunity and this special night happened because of the work of many people.   Again, thank you to all who made this wonderful event possible.
