Earlene Mathews

Graveside memorial services for the late  Mrs. Earlene Mathews, will  be held July 27 at 1 p.m. from St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church cemetery. Hudson Funeral Services of Greenville will be directing. Mrs. Earlene Mathews  (83) died June 24, 2013 at Medina Memorial Hospital. She was born in Dozier to Jesse and Rosie Cauley and was the youngest of 10 children. She married Arvester Mathews on Jan. 1, 1950 and moved to Niagara Falls, N.Y. so her husband could find work. She was a devoted wife and mother to her son Danny while also pioneering for the Congregation of Jehovah. In 1952 the family moved to Buffalo, and then to Albion in 1967 where she continued to serve Jehovah as a regular and later as an Auxiliary Pioneer until they moved back to Alabama in 1999. She was predeceased by her husband. She leaves behind a son, Danny (Salena) Mathews of Albion; four grandchildren, Daniel (Sara), Jenove (Mwangi) Thomas, Shawn and Kelly Mathews; five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
