A Luverne man is facing multiple charges after he led state troopers on a nearly 20-mile chase at speeds up to 142 mph on Thursday evening.

According Kevin Cook, public information officer for the Alabama State Troopers, a state trooper attempted to stop a sport bike on U.S. 29 in Luverne for speeding around 5:45 p.m.

The rider, who has been identified as Ryan Brown, 24, attempted to elude the trooper for 20 miles until his motorcycle’s rear tire blew out and crashed, Cook said.

Cook said Brown was taken to Troy Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

He will be charged with attempting to elude and reckless endangerment. He was also issued traffic citations for speeding. Brown was clocked going 142 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. He was also cited for improper passing, no insurance and no tag.
A representative from Brown’s family called The Messenger, The Journal’s sister paper, to report he did have insurance, though it might not have been made available at the scene due to his injuries.

The Troy Police Department also assisted in the pursuit.

The incident is still under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
