McKenzie School head football coach Miles Brown has been named the school’s new assistant principal.

Brown, a graduate of McKenzie School, said it has always been his goal to serve as a high school administrator.

“This is always something that I’ve wanted to do, and I can’t imagine a better place to do it,” Brown said. “McKenzie has such a great staff of teachers and support people. I’m just excited to have the opportunity.”

The move was approved by the Butler County Board of Education at a special called meeting, which was held Thursday.

Brown has been at McKenzie for seven years as the school’s head football coach.

During that time, Brown has led the Tigers to a 47-27 record, including a pair of 10-win seasons in 2009 and 2010, and a region championship in 2010.

He owns the second most wins at the school behind legendary coach Sam Dour, who led the Tigers to 94 wins during his 26 years at the helm of the McKenzie football program.

“McKenzie a special place, and I feel fortunate to be able help out in an administrative role,” Brown said. “Being in administration has been my goal since I got into education, and I’m ready to go to work.”

Brown will replace Mike Gunter, who was promoted to principal following the retirement of longtime principal Randy Williams.

The board also approved the transfer of Haden Horton from special education teacher to counselor at McKenzie School. She replaces her mother Carol Williams, who retired at the end of the school year.

Beth Burnett’s transfer from elementary school teacher to reading specialist at McKenzie School was also approved. She replaces Christy McIntyre who retired at the end of the school year.
