The Butler County Historical and Genealogical Society’s quarterly meeting is slated for Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m. at Greenville City Hall.
Lt. Col. Linda Green (ret.) will present a program on the noted military unit, the 8th Alabama Infantry, CSA, as described extensively in her book, “First, For The Duration: The Story of the Eighth (8th) Infantry, C.S.A.” This comprehensive volume is about one of the most well-known units of the Confederate Army. Attendees at the meeting will learn much more about the first groups of soldiers-the Greenville Guards-to leave from Butler County to fight for the South. Green will have copies of her books on hand to sell and sign following the event.
Membership in the Historical Society is $15 a year and includes four meetings per year along with quarterly publications and preservation projects.
