Despite starting the season with a strong offensive showing, the Eagle bats quieted last week, leading to two disappointing region losses.

The Eagles fell 3-1 against Hooper on Friday, followed by a 2-1 loss to Monroe Academy on Monday.

Coach Josh Beverly said that they just couldn’t put the ball in play.

“We took a lot of bad swings,” Beverly said. “We pitched well, and played good defense, and Hunter pitched a great game. Both matches were a waste of two good pitching performances.”

The Eagles posted three hits against Hooper, with Chase Whiddon, Cade Tillery and Jacob Phillips each picking up one. Cade Tillery claimed the Eagles’ sole run off a home run in the fourth inning. The team tallied 11 strikeouts for the night.

Armstrong struck out five, and gave up seven hits, allowing two earned runs.

“We cut down on the strikeouts against Monroe,” Beverly said. “But we still left players on base.”

Beverly said that his squad out hit Monroe five hits to two, but again, the Eagles couldn’t get them home.

“We kind of dug ourselves a hole in the region now, and we have to find a way to get out of it,” Beverly said.

The Eagles played Macon-East Friday in a region bout, but results were not available before press time.
