After last year’s successful Mark Twain performance, the Luverne Public Library is hosting its second annual dinner theater on March 8 at the Dei Center.

This year’s show will be “In Her Own Fashion,” a play written and performed by Dolores Hydock.

“We had so many people that told us they enjoyed it last year and asked us to do it again,” said assistant library director Regina Grayson.

Hydock’s play centers around Ninette Griffith, who served as fashion coordinator for Loveman’s, once one of Birmingham’s largest department stores.

Hydock wrote the play following more than 18 months of visits with Griffith, who was born in 1913 and reminisced about everything from World War I to events of the 1950s and ‘60s.

The play premiered last year, and Griffith died on Sept. 8, 2010 at the age of 97.

Hydock has been featured across the US as an actress and storyteller, and she has earned awards from Storytelling World Magazine.

She’s also appeared in one-woman plays like “Shirley Valentine,” “Fully Committed,” “Talking Heads,” “Underneath the Lintel,” and “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.”

The performance at the Dei Center will also feature a catered meal.

“This is like bringing a little bit of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival to Crenshaw County,” Grayson said.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on March 8, and tickets are $25 each or $175 for a table of eight.
