After executing a search warrant last week, the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Department uncovered nearly $500,000 in stolen artwork tucked away in a mini-storage building in Brantley.
“Over 70 pieces of art were recovered,” said District Attorney Charlotte Tesmer, whose office assisted the CCSO in the investigation. “Some were prints, but some were originals with the certificate of authenticity from what we could tell.”
Some of the artwork recovered came from artists like Norman Rockwell.
Tesmer said the Sheriff’s Office had been working with the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation because the paintings had originally been stolen from a home in Geneva County in 2010.
“They also reported some missing firearms and some jewelry, but those weren’t recovered,” she said.
Both the Crenshaw and Geneva County sheriff’s offices are continuing the investigation and following leads, but Tesmer said no arrests have been made at this time.
