Travis Dewitt Tisdale
TISDALE, Mr. Travis Dewitt, 71, a resident of Luverne died Friday, July 10, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. William Leverette officiating. Interment followed in the Providence Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Tisdale was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Rhodes Tisdale; a son, William J. Tisdale; grandson, Andy Bullard; his parents, Dewitt and Vera Tisdale; a brother and three sisters. Survivors include five children, Michael (Merica) Tisdale, Matthew (Genetta) Davis, Sue (John) Clark, Priscilla Kidd and Diane (Gary) McEwen; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Myra Pouncey, Doris McElwain, Patricia (Tant) Franklin and Mary Kelly; a brother, Quitman (Carolyn) Tisdale.
Active pallbearers were Michael Tisdale, Matthew Davis, Quitman Tisdale, Richard Tisdale, Matt Waters, Ricky McElwain, Gary Kilpatrick and T.L. Washington.
Margaret Raley McLeod
MCLEOD, Mrs. Margaret Raley, 85, a resident of Luverne died Saturday, July 11, 2009. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009 at Providence Cemetery with Rev. Clarence Crowe officiating and Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mrs. McLeod was preceded in death by her husband, Durwood McLeod; two brothers, Harold Raley and James Raley; and three sisters, Eloise Moore, Myra Layton and Wilma Messick. Survivors include two sisters, Sue (Otis) Acree of Dallas, GA and Mary (Jerry) Powell of Panama City Beach, FL; and a brother, William (Jean) Raley of Marietta, GA. Active pallbearers were Jeff Powell, Roy Acree, Curtis Acree, Eldrid Smith, Willie Smith, Mitchell Harris and Donnie Thompkins.
Dencil L. Schofield
SCHOFIELD, Mr. Dencil L., 94, a resident of Luverne died Sunday, July 12, 2009. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Brother Charles Sipper officiating and Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Schofield was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Schofield; parents, Gardner and Bernice Schofield; three sisters, Lucille Cantrell, Tommie Jackson, Myra Ruth Simmons; four brothers, Theo Schofield, Leon Schofield, Sammie Schofield and Gaston Schofield; and a son-in-law, Don Whittaker. Survivors include two daughters, Annette (Jerry) Sipper and Susan Whittaker; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Mattie Lou Jeffcoat; brother, Maynard (Jackie) Schofield; and a sister-in-law, Stella Broome.
Rex Edward Lowery
LOWERY, Mr. Rex Edward “Eddie”, 59, a resident of Luverne died Friday, July 10, 2009. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Luverne First Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Burns officiating. Interment followed in the Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mr. Lowery was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Bonnie Lowery. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Joy Russell Lowery; two children, Edward (Terrie) Lowery and Melissa (David) Best; five grandchildren, Tyler, Daniel and Sidney Best and Connor and Emma Lowery; two brothers, Andy Lowery and Harold (Audie) Lowery; four nieces and nephews, Misty Lowery (Brad) Meredith, Heath Lowery and Dustin and Madison Lowery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Luverne First Baptist Church.
Eddrie Wallace Swanner
SWANNER, Mrs. Eddrie Wallace, 95, a resident of Rutledge died Sunday, July 12, 2009. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Carter officiating. Interment followed in Faith Hill Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Mrs. Swanner was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Swanner and a special nephew, Edward “ Sonny” Mitchell. Survivors include four children, Oliver Swanner of Arab, Helen Swanner and Richard (Ann) Swanner of Rutledge and Sandra (Mike) Lonn of Otto, WY; and seven grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren. Active pallbearers were Billy Wallace, Bobby Wallace, Ronny Wallace, Justin Wallace, Jalon Wallace and Harvie Killough.
Teresa Folmar Smyth
SMYTH, Teresa Folmar “Sissy”, 46, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, departed this life for a better one on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Sis is now at home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where she will one day be reunited with her loved ones left behind.
Sissy is survived by her husband of almost 22 years, Mark T. Smyth, and two children, Gregory Ryan Gibson (Deanna) of Brantley, Alabama, and Leslie Suzanne Smyth of Luverne, Alabama, and a granddaughter, Olivia Grace Gibson. Sissy is also survived by her parents, Millard Lamar Folmar and Carolyn Defee Folmar of Brantley, Alabama, and one brother, Timothy Lamar Folmar (Hope) of Brantley, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Herbert M. Folmar and Lavada Merle Folmar, and James H. Schultz and Gladys Schultz.
A special thank you to one of Sissy’s caregivers, Mary Berdeaux, whom she grew to know and love very quickly. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at South Luverne Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Bro. Mike Green officiating. Burial will follow immediately thereafter in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Active pallbearers will be Cody Miller, Blake Folmar, Justice Smyth, Cody Eiland, Rann Smyth, and Jeff Smyth.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Crenshaw Christian Academy, South Luverne Baptist Church or to one’s favorite charity.
Mrs. Smyth will lie in repose at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to services.
