A holiday basketball tournament in Albertville, Ala. ended in the back of a patrol car for three Greenville High School players.

The Sand Mountain Reporter released the story on Friday, stating that Carderecko Devonte Maye, 18, as well as two minors from the team were arrested after Kmart’s loss prevention department called authorities stating that employees witnessed one of the players placing a pellet gun inside his pants. The three were transported to the Albertville Police Department and then processed through the Marshall County Juvenile Probation Department before being released back to their coach Jerome Harris. The three players were charged with theft of property, 3^rd.

GHS Principal Brad Cook said the students would face consequences upon returning to school.

“Although I can’t comment on the specific disciplinary actions of a student, but I can say that these players will be disciplined in accordance with the school handbook,” Cook said. “It will be the coaches’ decision as to these players’ futures with GHS basketball.”

Coach Jerome Harris said that the behavior was unacceptable and that discipline would be “stressed to the max.”

Coach Bryant Marlowe offered his remorse for the players’ actions.

“The GHS players and team would like to apologize for the actions of some of our players,” Marlowe said. “This is not what we stand for as a team or as individuals.”
