Incumbent probate judge Jim Perdue won re-election on Tuesday in Crenshaw County’s only locally-contested race.

Perdue, who ran as a Democrat, defeated Republican challenger Ronnie Hudson 4,348 to 1,955.

“It’s humbling,” Perdue said. “I appreciate the vote of confidence from the citizens.”

“I’m looking forward to beginning the next term and serving all of Crenshaw County,” added Perdue, who is beginning his third term in office.

Crenshaw County had 6,442 voters turn out for the election, which is around a 67 percent turnout.

Perdue said it seems that number is slightly higher than the last presidential election, when around 65 percent of voters showed up at the polls.

“I want to thank the poll workers,” he said. “Even with a 67 percent turnout, they did an excellent job.  I also want to thank the citizens for turning out and voting.”

The only votes that have not been counted are provisional votes, which will have to be verified at a later time.  There are traditionally fewer than 10 provisional ballots cast each election in Crenshaw County.

On a statewide level, Crenshaw County native Tommy Bryan won unopposed election to the State Supreme Court, Place 1.
