Week 10 football picks

I missed out on predicting last week’s games, and I’m just coming in under the wire this week.
Luverne vs Saraland
Luverne steps up a little bit in competition this week by taking on the 5A Saraland Spartans.
The Spartans have been unexpectedly good this year, making the playoffs in only their third year of fielding a football team.
The Tigers have overcome injuries to cruise to a 7-0 region record, and they’re looking for their eighth win of the season against Saraland.
It’s going to be a tough game, and even though Coach Les Sanders said they’re going to go into the game planning to win, I’m going to go with Saraland.
As a 5A team, the Spartans should have one thing the Tigers lack: depth.
This late in the season, that’s a tough thing to come by, especially with the playoffs on the horizon.
Saraland 28, Luverne 20
CCA at Wilcox
This is actually a rematch for these two teams.
In the first game, CCA had quite a few turnovers, and from all reports, shot themselves in the foot.
This road trip is also one of the shorter journeys the Cougars have taken in recent weeks — Camden is close compared to Phenix City and Lanett.
I’m going to put my faith in CCA to have cleaned up the mistakes from the first time around.
CCA 21, Wilcox 20
Highland Home at Georgiana
The Flying Squadron suffered a tough loss last week against Elba, and they need a win to finish with a .500 season.
Fortunately, they take on Georgiana.
The Panthers have a young team, and they’ve also been fighting injuries.
The only win they have this year was against a winless Red Level team, so Highland’s chances look good, especially since they played tough against Elba.
Highland Home 40, Georgiana 13
Brantley vs Elba
This has the potential to be one of the best games in the south part of the state.
Elba is coming off a state championship, but they’ve dropped three games this season, including one to Luverne that cost them a region championship.
The biggest matchup to watch will be Brantley’s defense against Elba’s offense.
The Bulldogs haven’t allowed more than 12 points in a game this year, while Elba is averaging 39.5 points per game.
Add in the fact that Brantley head coach David Lowery used to coach at Elba, and you’ve got a recipe for a barnburner.
Brantley 35, Elba 26
