Bryan Reynolds defeated Jerry Myers in a runoff to claim the District 1 seat on the Greenville City Council.
“I was ecstatic,” Reynolds said of learning he had won the election. “When we went up to City Hall after the polls closed (City Clerk) Sue (Arnold) told us that there had been a large turnout, and I really didn’t know what to think or which way (the election) would go.”
Reynolds received 192 votes (58 percent) to Myers 139 votes (42 percent) on Tuesday.
Reynolds said he was “overwhelmed” by the support of the voters in District 1.
“It means a lot to me that they would put their faith in me to be their councilman, and it’s going to be an honor to serve them,” he said. “I believe that Greenville has a lot of potential and I want to help make Greenville the best town that we can make it.”
Reynolds will replace Dr. Jean Thompson on the Council. Thompson did not seek re-election.
In the August municipal election, Reynolds received 168 votes, while Myers received 144 votes. Keith Gibson received just 68 votes, and was eliminated from the race.
