The time has come again for firefighters to put down their helmets and pick up their masks for the 9th annual Haunted Firehouse.

Put on by the Greenville Fire Department, the Haunted Firehouse raises money for the fire department as well as other organizations like the Muscular Dystrophy Association and families in need who may have been burned out of their homes.

New additions have been made to this year’s house including a 3D section.

Everyone who enters will be given a pair of 3D glasses for the new addition.

“We’ve redone about 80 percent of the whole house and the outside has been reworked,” said volunteer fireman John Haire. “We’ve added a couple of animatronics. The outside is a little bigger, and all of the inside has been reworked and we changed up the route a little bit.”

Last year’s event raised approximately $30,000, and Haire said he would like to see that number go up this year.

Both Haire and Les Liller travel to trade shows in St. Louis and northern Ohio to go through haunted houses and to take classes throughout the year to keep creating new additions to the house in Greenville.

“We start (preparing) the weekend after we close, which is the second week in November,” Haire said.

Haire added that there will be three flashlight tours this year, which will cost $3 per person.

The Haunted Firehouse opens Friday and Saturday and will continue to be open every Friday and Saturday through October from 7-11 p.m. The house will also be open on Oct. 31, Nov. 2 and 3.

Admission is $6 per person, and the house is located at 1198 Norman Road (Hwy. 10 East).
