Eagles soar past Escambia

Fort Dale bounced back from a tough loss last week, picking up a 42-20 win over Escambia on the road.
Escambia jumped up to a early 14-0 lead, with a Cougar 85-yard run helping to get things going. The Eagles, however, would answer three minutes later when Hunter Armstrong aired up an 89-yarder that found the hands of Manny Norrell. The kick by Patrick Russell was blocked, Escambia 14 – Fort Dale 6.
With 6 seconds left in the first quarter, Armstrong took it himself this time, spanning 61 yards for the touchdown. Norrell ran in the two-point conversion to tie it 14-14.
With 8:45 left in the second, Norrell ran it in 9-yards, with Russell picking up the extra point, 21-14.
Armstrong again found an open Eagle on a 39-yard toss to Stephen Till. Russell grabbed the point after to go into the half 28-14.
Early in the third, Till snatched up another long Armstrong toss, covering 85 yards for the TD. The kick was good, 35-14.
Taylor Loftin ran in 11 yards for the final touchdown, with Russell sending it through the uprights to make it 42-14. Escambia eeked out another touchdown off a fifteen yard pass, but missed the kick to close 42-20.
Armstrong had 102 rushing yards off 5 carries, and tallied 217 yards passing, completing on 5 of 10 attempts. Defensively, Stephen Till led the flock with 13 tackles, a blocked punt and a fumble recovery.
Fort Dale’s final game has been rescheduled to next Thursday at Edgewood, starting a 7 p.m.
