Greenville High School head coach Earnest Hill has been suspended for one game following an incident during the Tigers’ 31-10 loss to Jackson High School last Friday night.
When contacted Friday, Hill said he was unable to comment about the incident, but confirmed that he would not be coaching Friday’s game with Citronelle High School and that it was his understanding that the suspension was for just one game.
Hill said offensive coordinator Richard Kelly would guide the team in his absence.
Butler County Schools Superintendent Darren Douthitt said on Friday that he was aware that Greenville High School Principal Joseph Dean was dealing with a matter regarding an incident involving Hill during last week’s game, but said he was unsure of the exact nature of the incident.
He directed all questions to Dean.
Multiple attempts by the Greenville Advocate to reach Dean for comment were unsuccessful.
Hill was hired as Greenville High School’s head coach in 2011.
In his first season as head coach, he led the Tigers to an 11-1 record.
Prior to taking over the helm of the Greenville program, Hill served as the defensive coordinator at Spanish Fort High School, Handley High School and Greenville High School.
