Turnovers and a stagnant offense spelled disaster for Crenshaw Christian in a 32-16 loss to Wilcox Academy Friday night.
The Cougars ran 16 offensive plays in the first half and only managed one first down.
Despite that, CCA led 16-13 at halftime, thanks to an 83- yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Shaun Lewis and a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown by Chris Wooten.
A safety by Alex King midway through the second quarter was the Cougars’ final score of the night.
Wilcox came back to score three unanswered touchdowns in the second half.
Overall, CCA had 29 rushes for 57 yards and three fumbles.
Quarterback Trent McGough was 6-14 for 121 yards and one interception.
On the defensive side of the ball, King had 10 tackles to lead the Cougars, while Lewis had eight tackles, one assist and an interception.
Hunter Weeks also had eight tackles.
“We just didn’t play well,” said head coach Roland Jones. “We’ve still got to grow up. We’re playing better teams and we haven’t stepped up to the challenge.”
