Crenshaw Christian Academy faced a tough challenge from Chambers Academy but the defense stood tall and the Cougars came away with a 12-0 win.

Head coach Roland Jones said penalties played a big part of the game.

“We had two or three touchdowns called back,” he said. “We just had a rash of penalties, but we fought through it.”

Kyle Furr put the first points of the game on the board with a two-yard run with 3:51 left in the first quarter.

The extra point was no good, and the score remained 6-0 until after halftime.

The defense stepped up when Michael D’Arville forced a fumble that was recovered by Jud Sutley.

The Cougars started a drive, but it stalled.

Facing fourth down and five yards to go, CCA pulled out a fake punt and Furr went 39 yards for the touchdown with 1:07 to go in the third quarter.

“Our defense played a good game,” Jones said. “They blitzed a lot and put nine men in the box, but the biggest thing I was pleased with was that we kept the game in our hands.”

“We kept them pinned back all night,” he added.

Will Moses had 11 tackles and one assist, while D’Arville had nine tackles.

Both Furr and Wilson Hord had seven tackles.

The win was also the Cougars’ 32nd straight region victory.
