Mickeal Rodgers has announced his intent to seek election as mayor of the Town of McKenzie.
“I am running simply because I have sat back and watched for years the ones that have been mayor and are currently on the council, and (I’ve) watched the town die down to about a ghost town,” Rodgers said. “I believe the position of mayor could bring chances of trying to get new businesses to come into McKenzie.”
Rodgers said he would like to work on acquiring grants for the town to help with beautification and city sewage.
“(I would like to work on) city sewage, to get fulltime police officers in McKenzie, new patrol cars, new city garbage trucks and work equipment, and making sure the school stays open,” Rodgers said. “That’s a big passion of mine, because I graduated from McKenzie High School. I’ve lived in McKenzie all of my life. I would like to see the school stay open and see more community involvement and host events to raise money for the school to keep the school open.”
The municipal election will be held Aug. 28.
